Once as many as 16 Ursuline Nuns prayed here. With your help dozens of urban youngsters will learn here that they are precious in God's eyes.

A dusty piano awaits the imaginative minds of city youngsters who will learn that together they can make beautiful music.

Today a laundry room. Tomorrow, with your help it will become an art room for city children to express their ideas with imagination and creativity.

ETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INC.
CHILDREN SERVICE CENTER

This program is created to provide assistance to children in the Cleveland, East Cleveland, and Cleveland Heights area who have been identified by the school system and/or parent as being in need of additional assistance in meeting academic standards.

The services are geared toward helping children in basic skills of reading, writing, math and an understanding of science.

Christ the King kindergarten class and their teacher Mrs. Peggy Daull (left) and Aide (Ms. Genise Smith) are proud of their school and look forward to the services St. Anne Center will provide for them.

The program will consist of a Program Director, a board of Trustees, and volunteer tutors, some of them retired educators and members of the sorority. Others will be from universities and other charitable groups.

Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to the belief that involvement by concerned volunteers, parents and community leaders plus a caring environment will provide inspirational learning opportunities.

Christopher Jones and Danielle Morris each received a $1,500 grant to attended a three week workshop in urban youth leadership in Washington, D.C. this summer. Both will graduate from Christ the King School this June. Danielle will attend Beaumont. Chris received a full scholarship to St. Ignatius.

The mission of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Children Service Center is to provide a multitude of educational, psychological and interpersonal services for children.

Programs will be offered that empower children to set and achieve short and long-term goals.

The outcome will be:

· Improved self esteem
· Improved self image
· Improved test performance
· Improved ability to handle personal relationships with peers, family, and community persons
· Improved skill in selecting alternative choices for shaping their future.

The program will provide:

· Tutoring assistance for all children recommended by their parents or teachers from any school in the defined geographical area, grades one (1) to eight (8).

· Support for children who have suffered loss from death, divorce or separation.
· A variety of periodic programs in conflict resolution, self-esteem and parenting skills for families.
· Assistance to parents in helping their children learn to achieve.
· Other necessary skills

The program will be open to children Monday through Friday.

These young men, proud of their Catholic education, are finishing their education at Christ the King. Most of them will attend Catholic and Lutheran high schools.

The memory of Christ the King Church will remain with our children, 90% of whom are not Roman Catholic. They attend Catholic Mass regularly, are instructed in the moral teachings of the Church and must attend their own church each week.

The African Madonna is a image that the children are particularly fond of -- especially the welcoming arms of the child Jesus.

Dear Readers -

This St. Anne Center Page is offered to you as both an overview and a request. The overview is an exciting one - a center that truly is for children and their present and future well being. The Request is for your help. There are many levels of involvement for those who can walk with us on this journey. The most immediate event is the fund raiser on April 24th. We need to raise $ 50,000. (see THE FUNDING) Every dollar can help and we need to turn to you for these dollars. As detailed above, (see THE NEED ) we need other help as well.

Please consider what the Lord may be calling you to do in these regards. Then, send us an e-mail and let us know how you can help.

You remain in our prayers as we in turn ask for your prayers. We hope to hear from you soon.

Peace,

Father Lou
