CatholicServices.NET (CatholicNET)
ADVERTISING POLICY
The underlying reason for the existence of the CatholicServices.Net (CatholicNET) is to
help our internet visitors relate to the world and the age and the circumstances in which God has placed them.
So logically, we regard the confidence of our internet visitors as our most precious journalistic
possession. We have always tried to sell advertising saying that our ads gain a priceless ingredient of confidence
and believability that is carried over to them from our general site products. We have a responsibility to our
internet readers to assure that all ads are in accord with Catholic morality and good taste. However, an ad is
just that ... a paid advertisement. It is not an endorsement of the website or the Church. It is not to he confused
with an article, publicity or an editorial stance.
A STATEMENT OF ADVERTISING PRINCIPLES
Following is the creed of the American Federation of Advertising, principles which are
fully subscribed to by the CATHOLICSERVICES.NET (CATHOLICNET).
Good advertising:
- aims to inform the consumer and help to buy more intelligently;
- tells the truth, avoiding misstatements of facts as well as possible deception through
implication or omission;
- makes no claims which cannot be met in full and without further qualification. It uses
only testimonials of competent witnesses;
- conforms to generally accepted standards of good taste;
- seeks public acceptance on the merits of the product or service advertised, rather than
by the disparagement of competitors;
- avoids practices that are offensive or annoying.
ADVERTISING ACCEPTABILITY
All advertisements offered for publication on CatholicServices.Net (CatholicNET) site(s)
are subject to acceptance by the Webmaster. Questionable, misleading, controversial, or fraudulent statements will
be declined. CatholicServices.Net (CatholicNET) reserves the right to disapprove any advertising copy which in
its sole judgment may be deemed objectionable and undesirable. Furthermore, the Webmaster reserves the right to
revise or reject any advertising copy, in its sole discretion, for any reason whatsoever.
ART in ads:
|
Normal rules of good taste apply. Underclothing, negligees, etc. can be illustrated or
pictured as the item but cannot be shown on models.
|
ABORTION clinics or PRO ABORTION ads:
|
Not acceptable.
|
VASECTOMY ads:
|
Not acceptable.
|
DOOMSDAY, end of the world, BIBLICAL quotes:
|
Must be checked out for authenticity with the chancery of diocesan offices.
|
X-RATED MOVIES:
|
Not acceptable.
|
UPSIDE DOWN ads:
|
Not acceptable
|
BINGO ads:
|
Not acceptable.
|
Beer and Wine ads:
|
Accepted. Acceptance does not imply approval (moderation in all things should prevail)
up to readers good common sense. We will not accept advertisement that advertise prices below state minimum pricing.
|
PERSONAL ads: Such as those advertising for marriage, companionship, etc.
|
Not acceptable.
|
SENSITIVE CHURCH ISSUES: "Apparitions", etc.
|
These must be cleared through Church officials before acceptance. Sometimes (such as Medjugorje,
Yugoslavia) the simple phrasing of "claimed apparitions" as opposed to "apparitions" will satisfy
those involved.
|
Ads that appear to promote a good or service to be contrary to the best interests of our
readers.
|
Final judgment on this matter rests with the Webmaster.
|
RELIGIOUS JUNK: Overly pietistic ads for religious articles, pamphlets or those which
verge on superstition (fortune tellers - readers, etc. are also in this category).
|
Not acceptable.

POLITICAL ADVERTISING POLICY
We believe the following political ad policies are just, charitable and practical and
are adopted to promote good government:
1.) We will accept political ads from all candidates and their supporters. An ad does
not signify an endorsement - the
Church will not endorse any candidate.
2.) We will require candidates and their supporters to take a positive approach in all
ads. While candidates may detail their own qualifications and accomplishments, we will not permit a candidate or
his/her supporters to attack an opponent.
3.) We will reject ads which are libelous, false, offend the basic norms of decency, or
are specifically against Church teaching.
4.) If, in the editor’s/webmaster’s judgment, a candidate holds a position inimical to
Church teaching and takes an ad, we may write an editorial calling attention to his (or her) position, and make
clear the Church’s teaching on the issue.
5.) No clergy or religious identifiable by his or her clothing, or title, shall appear
in a political advertisement.
